Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

So, today's the big day. I'm signing the papers to buy a little, cheap, yet reliable, car (2005 Accent) so we will no longer be, exclusively, TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) people.

All this time--for the past 18 months or so, I've been trying to look on the bright side of not owning a car--all the money we've saved, the convenience of having a transit pass you can use to go on urban adventures on the weekends, getting time to read and think on my way to work in the morning, doing our bit for the stewardship of God's creation, etc. However, when once I realized we really were going to have wheels (albiet tiny ones) again, well, I couldn't help it, I felt really really good. No more messing about hauling my wire cart full of groceries onto buses and street cars; no more waiting for the perfect opportunity to buy something at, say Walmart (can't get there conveniently by transit) and then making a mad, rapid, laserlike raid on the store, getting whatever we need in record time, etc.,etc.

Well, I probably still will be riding the rails a fair bit in the coming months--but not always anymore!!!
