I continue to read McCullough's biography of John Adams--in fact have just passed the end of the presidency--and see a previous remark I made was not accurate. (This illustrates why blogs are not always to be trusted. Some argue that their information can actually be more accurate than newspapers, etc., because astute readers quickly correct errors, as they do on Wikipedia. But if one writes essentially for oneself and one or two theoretical, occasional readers, then one must be self-correcting, which I now will attempt to be...).
So here's the deal. Adams and Jefferson were not always "best buds," as earlier stated. They were early on, in France, and at the end of their days, it seems, but there was a point in time when they were quite alienated from each other due to political differences. More on this later...
