Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

It's Grey Cup (the Canadian Football League's Superbowl) Sunday and some 25,000 folks from Sakatchewan (they say) have crossed the border to watch their team take on the Montreal Alouettes here in Calgary.

In Toronto the CFL didn't get much attention even when the local team was doing well. But here, people can get rather rabid about it, not unlike Americans' attitudes towards the NFL.

So today, taking the motto, "when in Rome...", starting 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time, we'll be watching the game. After all, I do like a good football game--even one with three downs, a wider field, 12 men on a side, and a few funny extra rules I don't quite get. We bought hummus, crackers, and chips, and it should be a hoot.

And by the way, Calgary is having, with impeccable timing, a chinook today. The temp at 2:00 p.m. was 8C (47F), so players and fans shouldn't freeze their tails off.

Football anyone?
