Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

Here are pics from our recent two-day adventure in Waterton Lakes National Park. The top photo was taken from the Bear's Hump, overlooking the Waterton Park village and Waterton Lake. The lake extends south into Montana and Glacier National Park, in the distance.

The next was taken at Cameron Lake in the canoe we rented. Behind me, again, is the USA. If we'd rented the canoe a bit longer we could have crossed into the U S of A without clearing customs. Interestingly, that shore behind me in the photo is where they say to watch for grizzly bears. The whole area, they say on the signs, is "grizzly country."

Finally, there I am again on my way to Lower Bertha Falls. That's the wimp hike, as it were, taking about an hour each way. When we're feeling up to it some day we'll go the whole way on the trail to Bertha Lake, which works out to a seven-mile round trip, with a fair elevation gain. In any case, the portion we did hike was be-au-ti-ful...
