Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

It's true. Here in Calgary, the sun is going down suspiciously later than it is in Toronto at this time of year. Doing a tad of research (i.e., typing "sunrise sunset" into Google) I came up with this link which states very clearly that the sun will set in Toronto today at 8:56 p.m. (quite reasonable for this time of year) while here you have to wait until 9:47 p.m.

That
explains why I sat in the backyard at, say 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. recently (wearing heavy clothing) reading a book. Aha! So it's not due to the Aurora Borealis or the lights of downtown Calgary, or the distant glow of wildcat fires in the oil fields. It's the sun! Still up!!

Furthermore this explains why, when we hit the sack these days (we're early-to-bedders), someone forgets to douse the lights outside our house.
