Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

The snow is just dumping out there this morning. Looking at our garage (a separate building, in back) I see maybe ten to twelve inches of fluffy snow on top. Nevertheless the high temp for today is supposed to reach 8C with a high of 19C for Saturday and 21C (72F) for Sunday! Wow. Very interesting. So as soon as I finish this I'm going out to do some shoveling.

Actually, the snow does not depress me. Analyzing why I think it's because I've wanted to have evidence (as I've said before) of the Otherness of where we now live. I like the fact that it's different. As Charity said the other day, every time she looks at the way the clouds often form--a sort of hanging curtain in front of the mountains--she's reminded that we live somewhere else. You just don't see it like that in Ontario.

Also, I've always had a mild fantasy of living in a remote cabin and writing books. Maybe this is as close as I'll get to that.

Wow, at no point during this winter would we have had the chance to say, "The snow is really dumping down."

Today is a nice day, though the sun's retreated for the moment--it was 80 earlier! Crazy.

Guess I'd better take Jeremiah outside before he "pitches a fit". :)

Actually I heard on the radio that Calgary just broke a snowfall record for April 10. The last one was set in 1920! I got stuck when backing our car into the alley a little while ago, then managed to get going again. However, things are warming up now and the melt it is on. The wild thing is, as I mentioned, we're supposed to spike at 72 on Sunday. (Enjoy yourself there in Lotus Land!)
