Steffin Hill Extension

During my childhood, the longest our family ever lived in one place was from 1957 to 1967 when we lived on Steffin Hill Extension. The house had a large lot and a lovely view of the western Pennsylvania hills. It was while living there that I began writing letters. In this blog I continue the tradition, with irregular updates on my life and times.

Ah, it's a good old Ontario January again. The temperature today's only going up to minus nine Celsius (and I'm too lazy to translate that into Farenheit. I am sad to report that my mind has been utterly corrupted by the metric system in certain key areas such as temperatures and when I go to fill a gas tank with litres--and yeah, that's how we spell it up here).

Bottom line is, it's mighty cold out there and I'll be putting on the old winter parka with a hood and so forth as I venture forth this morning to the Yorkville part of Toronto to exchange something at a store. Yorkville is Toronto's chief artsy-fartsy part of the city--the place the big Hollywood stars like to hang out when they come to town (or if you're Russell Crowe, the place you make a big scene and get in the newspaper when you come to town, which is what happened in 2004).

Later today my good buddy Al will be swinging by with his son and we'll be going to watch the Foggy Hogtown Boys play bluegrass in a Toronto bar. (Just so you know, "Hogtown" is one of the things Toronto historically has been called, don't ask me why.)

And then after that, I'll be riding with Al to his place in Mississauga and, along with some others, we'll be trying our hand at some bluegrass ourselves.

Somewhere along the line this weekend I have to read some articles written by a Toronto Star reporter which were forwarded to me in an e-mail by my Writing for the Print Media instructor. That reporter's coming to the class Monday night so we're supposed to know something about what she's written and have some intelligent questions to ask.

I also have a Things To Do list including such items as "Get back on diet" and "Get back into good sleep pattern" and "Wash dishes" and "Clean kitty litter" that I need to address.

"Life," as I believe psychiatrist and author Scott Peck once wrote, "is difficult."

Well, it could be a whole lot more difficult than it is and I feel very grateful for the blessings that I realize, once I stop to consider them, have been piled up upon my particular plate.

Anyhow, gotta run, and th-th-th-th-that's all for now, folks!

"Get back into a good sleep pattern"...

Sounds nice... :-) Looking forward to those days myself.
